Tutorial: PointScribe Tutor Settings

The latest version of PointScribe, Version 2.0, offers a new feature called Tutor: innovative artificial intelligence that automatically advances the skill level of each and every shape based on handwriting accuracy and completion performance goals are set by the educator.

Lessons begin with large, easy to complete shape sizes. Each time the student writes a shape, Tutor gathers and analyzes handwriting data. When the student’s handwriting proficiency meets the goals for that shape, PointScribe uses that data to automatically advance her on to the next challenge level (smaller shape size).

The ultimate virtual teacher for handwriting; PointScribe sits with every student for every stroke of every shape. It consistently corrects, guides, and monitors proficiency, increasing the challenge precisely when the student has mastered the shape.

To set goals for Auto Advancement:

  • (A) In theTutor Options area of lower left of the Lesson Editor screen, check the Enable Tutor button. If PointScribe Tutor is not enabled, no data will be captured.

  • (B) Select the Set Accuracy Goal drop down menu.
    • Make your selection for the percent accuracy (overall deviation from centerline) that the student must meet or achieve for advancement.
    • Accuracy is measured by overall deviation from centerline, divided by the total number of attempts required to complete the shape.
      • Goal settings from 40% to 90%

  • (C) Select the Set Achievement Goal drop down menu.
    • Make your selection for the number of times the student much achieve the accuracy goal before automatically advancing.
    • Achievement is the number times a student must attain accuracy goal in order to advance.
      • Goal settings from 1 to 10 times

Did you know?

  • One of PointScribe's fundamental features is its ability to provide immediate feedback and correction when a student forms a shape improperly. However, for students who face fine motor challenges, this can be frustrating. PointScribe Tutor enables you to disable Auto Correction until a student is ready. For more information on Auto Correction, click here.
  • PointScribe Tutor also enables Visual Cues to" advance" automatically by systematically removing them as the challenge level increases. For information on Visual Cue Advancement, click here.
  • The data captured and analyzed by PointScribe Tutor drives scoring, which can be displayed in several ways. For more information on Score Display, click here.
